From the moment Vershinin contributed to the arrest of Medushevskiy, several months have passed. Vershinin almost recovered from his wound, and it was time for him to return to work as the chief of police in Portovoy. But as soon as he has time to leave the hospital, there is an assassination attempt on Yura Nikitin and Gleb Borisov in the city. After the death of Nikitin Sr., his son decided that he was able to continue the work of his father, and this makes Yura an obstacle to many forces claiming to own the port. To begin the investigation, Vershinin needs to assemble a new team of reliable people, because he cannot rely on the whole Gubin, even if he has taken the path of correction. The first partner of Vershinin is junior lieutenant Stas Komarov, a 26-year-old graduate of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the second is the stubborn idealist Mariya Davydova.
