在一所普通的高中内，生活着一对“废柴”父子。父亲兰斯克•莱顿（罗宾•威廉姆斯Robin Williams 饰）渴望成为名利双收的畅销作家，然而书稿却无法逃脱退回的命运。他所教授的诗歌鉴赏课听者寥寥，虽然和同校的的艺术课女老师克莱尔•里德（阿丽克谢•吉尔莫 Alexie Gilmore 饰）谈恋爱，但恋情始终无法公开。兰斯的儿子凯尔性格孤僻古怪，这个正处在青春躁动期的男孩处处与父亲作对，每天惹是生非，性格内向的小男生安德鲁（Evan Martin 饰）是他唯一的朋友。凯尔对学习、音乐、电影全不感兴趣，唯有色情和手淫主宰着他的生活。

非常喜欢影片前半部分男主的中年落魄生活，青春期白眼狼儿子像个只泰迪，工作上被同事比下去，老板委婉打算让他走人，唯一的志向写作却只有退稿，看似如胶似漆的女友却脚踏两只船，一切的背运在泰迪自渎把自己勒死后达到高潮，老爸还要顾及颜面假装成自杀，看到这里，本片已经把生活的真相展现了出来，作为悲剧，一切完美。没想到后面突然峰回路转，还有一个巨大的讽刺等着观众。suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems。但是如果生活就是永无止尽的暂时性地问题组成的呢？
前面三分之一有点难熬，后面剧情渐入佳境

也许大部份的人生都这样不如意居多？
儿子凯尔把自己撸死了，父亲兰斯伪装成他上吊自杀，身边的人以各种方式来显得自己跟凯尔多么亲近，试图安慰丧子后的父亲，但叛逆期的凯尔生前跟父亲的微妙关系又有几个人能真正了解呢？…兰斯伪造的儿子的日记出版，封面用的是凯尔非常不喜欢只是兰斯自己喜欢的照片，出人意料的畅销，导致凯尔就读的学校用他的名字命名了图书馆，在命名仪式上，内心负重的兰斯说出了真话。

狠狠的嘲弄着人们在乎的根本不是kyle的死亡，而是每个人自己在面对kyle的死亡时展现出来的自己是一个圣人、是一个有同情心的好人的模样。
本来只打算给4星，但是最后的跳水镜头让我决定给到它5星，在那一瞬间，整部片子的风格和故事才变得完整。
太好笑了笑死我了。人就应该坦荡的活着不是吗，金钱名利成功……人一旦以这些为目的，就没有了快乐不是吗。如果人能坦坦荡荡的活着，那生活会不快乐吗？
如此讽刺，如此真实~
