It's wise to put Leigh's story at the end of the series. It's guilty pleasure to read V.C.Andrews and the TV series is even trashy(Same house as flowers in the attic, are you kidding me?). But she is best-selling author and her books always highlighten the life long history of the abused women and their fear and courage to build their own life.
