This epic historical drama, shot in the interiors of the magnificent palaces of St. Petersburg, represents an unconventional view of the personality of the Russian Emperor Paul the First. It shows him not as a tyrant , but as a living person with his own experiences, who sincerely strived to bring happiness to the country. He ruled choosing unfit methods, which lead only to a result opposite to the desired one.

场景豪华的大制作，就是拍得很无趣，导演绝不是个有才华的人。对其何以能拿那么多奖感到很纳闷。
华丽、阴沉、精致、脆弱，片中的亚历山大一世、罗曼诺夫王朝和片子本身给我这样的感觉。
演技非常好，就是对当时的宗教、外交事件描述太少
最后留白很喜欢，有on verra~的意思~

配乐很可爱。保罗一世就一白痴，简直彼得三世翻版，父子俩真是风流女皇的人生悲剧啊
