影片讲述第一次世界大战,托曼尼亚王国独裁者辛格尔(查理·卓别林饰)上台。他的大肆扩张导致战乱不断民不聊生。并且他大搞阴谋政策,煽动民众对犹太人的敌对与仇恨,让犹太人民陷入水深火热的灾难之中。被征入伍的犹太人理发师查理(查理·卓别林饰)更是在这样的高压政策下难逃一劫。当查理逃出边境时,被驻守在这里的军队误认为是独裁者辛格尔,他趁机做了一场“为自由而战斗”的大演说。
该片是查理·卓别林的第一部有声片,摄于希特勒统治最为黑暗的时期,片中对他辛辣讽刺跟丑化比比皆是。本片荣获第13届(1941)奥斯卡最佳电影、最佳男主角、最佳男配角、最佳编剧、最佳音乐5项提名。 Twenty years after the end of WWI in which the nation of Tomainia was on the losing side, Adenoid Hynkel has risen to power as the ruthless dictator of the country. He believes in a pure Aryan state, and the decimation of the Jews. This situation is unknown to a simple Jewish-Tomainian barber who has since been hospitalized the result of a WWI battle. Upon his release, the barber, who had been suffering from memory loss about the war, is shown the new persecuted life of the Jews by many living in the Jewish ghetto, including a washerwoman named Hannah, with whom he begins a relationship. The barber is ultimately spared such persecution by Commander Schultz, who he saved in that WWI battle. The lives of all Jews in Tomainia are eventually spared with a policy shift by Hynkel himself, who is doing so for ulterior motives. But those motives include a want for world domination, starting with the invasion of neighboring Osterlich, which may be threatened by Benzino Napaloni, the dictator of neighboring Bacteria. Ultimately Schultz, who has turned traitor against Hynkel's regime, and the barber, may be able to join forces to take control of the situation, they using Schultz's inside knowledge of the workings of the regime and the barber's uncanny resemblance to one of those in power.

把地球玩弄于股掌之间的气球芭蕾。卓别林的一战讽刺喜剧,他的第一部有声片。开头战场上那些大炮操作真的挺搞笑的。
可能我先入为主了,觉得这部电影较卓的默片剧情方面弱些。但想到到拍摄的年代正是轴心国如日中天之际,卓能将其讽刺辛辣的拍摄出来就已经彰显了大师胸怀。而最后的演讲不但并非败笔,更是使得全片升华的地方,因为1940处于战火之中的人们看后能得到的力量和我们是完全不同的。

开头第一幕就被那尊古斯塔夫炮给我来了一波小小的Germany震撼,鉴于此片诞生在那个特殊年代就很难不让人联想到道具组整来了真家伙。 有一幕小胡子车队游行街边思考者雕塑也在伸手行纳粹军礼实在好笑

卓别林“玩转地球”的场景真是绝对经典了。
我是持最后的演讲是败笔的人。特别是放在当下。但放在当时,也是一种当下,这种发声很有力量,算不上败笔。就算是今天,我也不认为特别失败,也说不上特别好。好坏参半那种吧。
