梅斯（克里斯·洛克 饰）是华盛顿一个前途渺茫的小议员，亲人和未婚妻先后弃他而去，谁知最近发生的一件事竟然让梅斯咸鱼翻身，原来此时正值总统大选，代表民主党参选的候选人突然遇刺身亡，情急之下，梅斯被推上了前台，委以竞选下届美国总统的重任。
小议员成了总统候选人，梅斯的哥哥和未婚妻重新回到了梅斯的身边，所有的人都对他堆满笑脸，台前、幕后，形形色色的人怀揣着各自的目的上演了一出大选闹剧...... One candidate for the presidency dies in an accident a couple of weeks before the election. Meanwhile the alderman Mays Gilliam becomes a hero when he rescues a woman and her cat from an old house that would blow up. However his fiancee Kim does not pay his bills and dumps him, and Gilliam loses everything including his fancy car. When Senator Bill Arnot sees the news on television, he plots a scheme with the party advisors Martin Geller and Debra Lassiter to invite Mays to be the party nominee and lose the election for the other candidate, Vice-President Brian Lewis. Four years later, he would be the candidate and would have the chance of winning the election. Mays has a terrible beginning of campaign but when his older brother Mitch Gilliam meets him in Chicago, he advises Mays to be himself. Will he have the chance to be the first African American President of the USA?

挺搞的，原以为最多塞点像是他在脱口秀里会用的段子，结果真插了几场脱口秀是没想到。

以前就感觉一爽文类的影视作品，但是看看奥巴马和川普，好像也挺合理。

辩论部分很让人振奋，算是中规中矩的喜剧片。
