消失几年的米凯莱突然回家，使母亲罗萨里娅喜出望外。然而，警方的到来又使罗萨里娅的心重新跌入低谷——米凯莱涉嫌强奸和谋杀。尽管警方掌握的证据几乎不容辩驳，但是罗萨西娅仍然坚信自己的儿子不会做出如此卑劣的行径。她找到受害人逐一了解情况，终于发现了排除儿子嫌疑的关键证据：罪犯惯用左手。罗萨西娅还找到了证明儿子在案发之时不在意大利的照片。当这些证据仍不足以证明儿子无罪的时候，罗萨里娅实施了进一步的计划：亲自寻找罪犯，在她锲而不舍的努力下，罪犯终于浮出水面……
