苏联时代结束，失败的电影导演科里亚-维德宁被迫在一家普通的录像厅工作。同样的电影放映了几十遍，他已经烂熟于心。一天，科里亚不小心为小学生们播放了 "成人电影"，作为惩罚，他被关进了监狱的锯木厂。在那里，他得到了一个绰号 “录像机”，并在狱长的要求下，用一台普通的摄影机，使用任何可用材料，用一台普通的摄像机和囚犯们一起拍摄了他自己版本的大热片。于是，监狱内出现了属于自己的“好莱坞”。
Kolya Videnin, who dreams of becoming a film director, works in an unremarkable video salon, showing viewers cult films that he has managed to memorize. One day Kolya accidentally shows the schoolchildren a film for adults. The guy is arrested and sent to the sawmill for child molestation. In the colony, the poor fellow receives the nickname Vidik and comes up with a trap plan. In order to be released on parole as soon as possible, Kolya entertains the prison warden in an unusual way: he creates original versions of famous films using available materials - a simple camera and fellow prisoners in everyday life.
