Consumed with his legacy, Parker spends his idle time reading obituaries and walking through the cemetery pondering his existence. Lacking inspiration, he looks to the past for answers. One day, his life takes a dramatic turn, when out of morbid curiosity he wanders anonymously into a funeral and becomes entranced by HOPE, a deceased ballerina. She immediately leaves an indelible imprint on his soul. Driven by her memory, Parker begins to question his path in life to the dismay of those closest to him. As his obsession grows for her, the shortcomings of his own life begin to magnify. Once a composer filled with great promise, Parker now toils away unfulfilled, writing jingles for an advertising agency. He can't get past the question, how does one make a living as an artist in today's society? He fares no better at his relationship with SARAH, a career girl caught up in the mores...
派克自诩艺术家、作曲家，却一直为广告公司的五斗米折腰。为了给一款命名为“遗爱”的香水新品创作音乐，他像染上变态癖好一样每天看报纸上的讣告、去墓园散步，去教堂旁观葬礼，甚至把一个约等于流浪汉的酒吧弹琴者请到自己工作室吃喝侍候着，作品却毫无进展。他在一次葬礼上看到逝者——漂亮的芭蕾舞者的遗照，从此爱上了她，在想象中时时与之共处，然而这也没让他灵魂爆棚。最终失去了女友也失去了工作。真是一部节奏拖沓、半吊子艺术家沉浸的时刻也丝毫不够飞翔的鬼扯电影。
